New bank, wastewater treatment facility, and townhomes funded by grants.
U.S. Treasurer Chief Lynn Malerba visited the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe reservation in Minnesota last month, touring the facilities constructed using funding from the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act.
Treasurer Malerba first toured the local wastewater treatment facility, which received significant improvements using federal funding. This investment improved the water quality for both the reservation’s residents and the surrounding ecosystem.
The treasurer also met with a tenant living in one of 30 new townhomes built on the reservation using this funding. The new affordable housing offers stable living conditions and a raised-bed community garden to its tenants.
Mille Lacs Tribal leaders ended the tour at the Band’s Woodlands National Bank. With a new local bank on the reservation, it’s easier for residents and leaders to rectify economic disparities commonly faced by Tribal communities.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Treasurer Malerba to be led by God as she fulfills her role in the Treasury Department.
- For U.S. officials and tribal leaders as they seek to ensure affordable housing for Native Americans.
